Background:

Pilates is a form of total body and mind conditioning that effectively improves postural alignment, balance and control, strengthens and tones muscles, increases lung capacity and helps to reduce stress. It provides an efficient, holistic approach to overall health and fitness for all individuals young or old. Whether you are a professional athlete, fitness enthusiast, sedentary, pregnant or even in physical therapy - Pilates benefits everyone.

The Pilates method of conditioning utilizes various apparatuses that are specifically designed to target muscles in a uniform manner by creating some form of resistance. The equipment has adjustable springs used to regulate tension, straps and pulleys allowing the exercises to be performed from a variety of positions, moving carriages, cables, rings, bars and cushioned mats. The most commonly known apparatus is the Reformer which is one of first pieces invented by Joseph H. Pilates during the first part of the twentieth century and can now be seen in many fitness facilities, gyms, studios, and spas around the world. Other apparatuses included are the Trapezed Table (Cadillac), Wunda Chair, Electric Chair, Ladder Barrel as well as several accessories such as the Magic Circle.
